Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu held a meeting with senior officers of police, home and law departments on late Wednesday evening to tackle the drug menace in the state. During the meeting, the CM said that necessary amendments will be made in the law to take strict action against the drug peddlers and confiscation of the property of the culprits. He said that in order to secure the future of the youth, a special task force would also be constituted to break the drug supply chain and take strict action against the mafia.
He said that an advisory board would be constituted under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act to check the menace of drugs and to monitor drug trade. The Chief Minister said that a modern de-addiction center and rehabilitation center would be set up in the state to help drug addicts and bring them back into the mainstream of society. Through these centers they will be made responsible citizens. He said that these centers would be equipped with modern facilities with skilled support staff.
He said that the menace of drugs is a big challenge before the society and it is the need of the hour to nab the culprits and register cases against them on speedy basis under the law. He said that efforts would be made to develop an effective mechanism with the cooperation of the Central Government to stop drug trafficking and sharing of intelligence and necessary amendments in the Central Law would also be urged.
Expressing serious concern over the consumption of drugs, the Chief Minister said that people should be made aware about their ill-effects and there was a need to coordinate with the neighboring states to deal with this problem in the border areas. He also directed the officers to take appropriate measures to curb this menace and save the young generation from drug mafia.
