Lucknow. There is important news for farmers in Uttar Pradesh who have been awaiting the start of government paddy procurement. The Yogi Adityanath government has finalized the dates for paddy procurement for the Kharif marketing season. According to the Yogi Cabinet’s decision, government procurement of paddy will commence on October 12 in Western Uttar Pradesh and on November 1 in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, the state government has decided to undertake government procurement of coarse grains—referred to as ‘Shri Anna’—this year as well; the date for this has been set for December 31.
Following the cabinet meeting, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manoj Kumar Pandey provided details regarding the procurement system and the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for coarse grains. He stated that government procurement of pearl millet (bajra), maize, and sorghum (jowar) would be carried out in various districts of the state this year. Under the government’s decision, procurement will take place in 33 districts for pearl millet, 25 districts for maize, and 13 districts for sorghum. This will provide farmers in the respective districts with the opportunity to sell their produce through the government procurement system.
Paddy Procurement in Western UP Starts October 12
The commencement of paddy procurement in Uttar Pradesh will occur on different dates depending on the region. Government procurement of paddy from farmers in Western Uttar Pradesh will begin on October 12, while the procurement process in Eastern Uttar Pradesh will start on November 1. Thus, separate schedules have been determined for both regions.
With the government procurement schedule finalized, farmers will have the opportunity to prepare for the sale of their produce. The objective of the paddy procurement system is to purchase farmers’ produce through an established government process. However, for detailed information regarding procurement centers, registration, and other arrangements, farmers should refer to the official notifications issued by the concerned department.
Paddy is cultivated on a large scale in the state; therefore, the government procurement dates are significant for farmers. Setting region-specific dates makes it easier for farmers to know exactly when paddy procurement will begin in their respective areas. Government Procurement of ‘Shri-Anna’ (Millets) to Begin on December 31
The Yogi Cabinet has decided to undertake government procurement of coarse grains (millets) alongside paddy. Procurement of coarse grains—categorized under the ‘Shri-Anna’ initiative—will be conducted this year as well. A schedule has been finalized to commence this procurement process on December 31.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manoj Kumar Pandey stated that procurement operations will cover pearl millet (bajra) in 33 districts, maize in 25 districts, and sorghum (jowar) in 13 districts. Specific districts have been designated for each crop. This initiative will provide farmers in the respective regions with the opportunity to sell their produce through the government’s procurement system.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) plays a crucial role in the government procurement of coarse grains. Eligible farmers sell their crops at rates determined under the MSP framework. The government has set distinct MSPs for sorghum, pearl millet, and maize for the current year.
Minimum Support Prices Fixed for Sorghum, Pearl Millet, and Maize
The state government has determined the Minimum Support Price per quintal for various types of coarse grains. According to the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, the MSP for the ‘Maldandi’ variety of sorghum has been set at ₹4,073 per quintal, while the MSP for the hybrid variety has been fixed at ₹4,023 per quintal.
The MSP for pearl millet has been set at ₹2,900 per quintal. Similarly, the rate for maize has been fixed at ₹2,410 per quintal. These rates have been established for the government procurement of the respective crops. According to information released by the government, the fixed MSPs are as follows:
Crop | Minimum Support Price (MSP)
Jowar (Maldandi) | ₹4,073 per quintal
Jowar (Hybrid) | ₹4,023 per quintal
Bajra | ₹2,900 per quintal
Maize | ₹2,410 per quintal
These rates inform farmers about the price fixed for the respective coarse grains under the government procurement system. Before selling their produce, farmers should obtain information regarding the procurement program applicable in their district and the eligibility criteria for the specific crop.

Paddy procurement in Western Uttar Pradesh will begin on October 12, while farmers in Eastern UP will have the opportunity for government procurement starting November 1. Specific districts within the state have also been designated for the procurement of coarse grains. Bajra will be procured in 33 districts, maize in 25 districts, and jowar in 13 districts. Additionally, MSPs have been fixed for the different varieties of these crops.
