Gold bars worth $2.33 million seized at Dhaka airport

Dhaka (IANS) | Customs officials at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport seized 204 gold bars worth about $2.33 million. A local official gave this information. Qazi Farid Uddin, a senior customs intelligence official, told reporters that 204 gold bars were seized from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, Xinhua news agency reported.

He said the BG-122 aircraft reached Dhaka at around 11.30 am on Thursday via Chittagong from Muscat.

According to the official, the gold bars were left in the cargo hold of the aircraft.

Acting on a tip-off, Uddin said customs officials searched the aircraft and recovered gold bars wrapped in cloth.

According to local officials, no one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
