Raigarh: In Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, the husband told his wife- ‘You don’t look beautiful. You have less hair on your head, still you married me. But you got a 125 cc bike instead of 150. Go and bring 25 lakhs from your parents’ house.’ After this, the wife has lodged an FIR against her husband and 4 people from her in-laws’ side. The case is of Kotra Road police station area.
A 33-year-old woman from Jashpur was married to Kotra resident Rajiv Yadav on 11 June 2023 as per customs. It is alleged that from the very next day of the marriage, husband Rajiv Yadav, mother-in-law Vidyavati Yadav, father-in-law Tribhuvan Lal Yadav and brother-in-law Sanjeev started taunting her about dowry. The woman alleges that the husband used to torture her physically and mentally by asking her to bring 25 lakh rupees from her parents’ house. According to the complaint, mother-in-law Vidyavati Yadav and brother-in-law Sanjeev used to harass that you have not cooked good vegetables.
Even at the engagement, good breakfast was not given. Fed up with this, she filed a report in Jashpur police station on 28 August. There, a zero FIR was registered and the case was transferred to Kotra Road police station. The woman says that her in-laws kept her mobile with them. Due to this, she was not able to talk to her parents. When she did not talk to her daughter for a long time, after about a month, the woman’s mother reached her in-laws’ house to meet her. It is alleged that the people from the in-laws’ side started abusing and insulting her mother. At this, the mother returned. After her departure, the people from the in-laws’ house started harassing her for complaining to her parents.
The married woman has told in the report that, when she told her brother-in-law Sanjeev about instigating her husband, he started abusing her. The in-laws locked her in the room. The husband came and beat her and asked her not to tell anyone.
It is being told that the woman’s family had given many things at the time of marriage. Which includes fridge, cooler, TV, washing machine, sofa, divan, gold necklace, tops, ring, anklet, waist belt, 125 cc Pulsar bike, and other items.
The woman told in the report that, her in-laws stopped her from talking to the neighbors and did not allow her to go anywhere. Her husband and in-laws constantly harassed her mentally. She often had the thought of committing suicide, but on December 23, when her brother came to her in-laws’ house, she went to her parent’s house with him.
