GCZMA, Biodiversity Board inspect bundh at Candolim

Calangute: Following an order from the Bombay High Court at Goa, officials of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and Goa State Biodiversity Board on Friday conducted a site inspection of the water resources department (WRD) project at the Candolimbundh, next to the Nerul bridge, on a complaint by the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) that there has been violation of the CRZ notification.

The CCF had filed a petition with the HC that the GCZMA had failed to take any action on their complaint lodged in December last year about the “ecological destruction” of the Candolimbundh. The HC had passed an order on Tuesday directing the GCZMA to conduct the site inspection.

CCF members said they have shown the officials the violations and ecological destruction in the no-development zone, and have asked them to restore the bundh to its original state. “If there is no action, we will approach the National Green Tribunal,” CCF president Premanand Divkar said.
