This is the first case in Chhattisgarh when the police has recovered such a large quantity of ganja at once. Police have also arrested two interstate smugglers who were smuggling ganja. Both the accused were smuggling this consignment of ganja from Orissa and taking it to Maharashtra via Chhattisgarh. According to the information, this morning the police had received information from an informer about smuggling of huge quantity of ganja through Odisha. After which, checking was started by setting up a blockade at Rehtikhol Naka of Singhoda border police station in Mahasamund district. During this time, the police stopped truck number MH 21 BH 5855 in which two persons were traveling. When the police asked them about the salmon loaded in the vehicle, both of them tried to mislead the police by giving vague answers.
After which the police interrogated them strictly and both of them confessed to smuggling ganja under the empty carat in the truck and taking it to Madhya Pradesh. When the policemen searched the truck, they were shocked. In the truck, 862 packets of ganja were kept inside 50 plastic sacks. When weighed by the police, its weight was found to be 1725 kg, the estimated value of which is said to be Rs 8 crore 62 lakh 50 thousand. Police have arrested both the accused who smuggled this consignment of ganja, who have been identified as Avinash Mhaske (age 27 years) father Dnyaneshwar Mhaske and Santosh Pawar (age 32 years) father Bhimrao Pawar. Who is a resident of Jalna district of Maharashtra. However, Singhoda police has taken due action against both the accused under the provisions of NDPS Act and sent them to jail.
