Gangamma Temple’s 5-day Mahasamprokshana begins tomorrow

The stage is all set for the five-day Maha Samprokshanam of the reconstructed Tataiah Gunta Gangamma temple in the city. The Maha Samprokshanam will begin on May 1 and will conclude with Kumbabhishekam on May 5. After the ceremony, the shrine will be thrown open for public darshan.

Speaking to the media, Gangamma temple committee chairman Katta Gopi Yadav said that Kanchi Kamakoti Peetadhipathi Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamy will participate in the Maha Kumbabishekam, under whose guidance the day-long ritual will be held on May 5.

He said the temple committee decided to halt the reconstruction works temporarily after the completion of the Garbhalayam construction and perform Samprokshanam in view of the annual Jathara and will resume the works after the Jathara and complete it in a few weeks.

The reconstruction works which were taken up at a cost of Rs 20 crore will be completed in June. Regarding the arrangements for Jathara which will be observed as a State festival from this year onwards, he said that the temple committee decided not to issue VIP passes during the Jathara for darshan so as to give priority to ordinary devotees expected to throng the shrine in big numbers.

The temple committee under the Endowments Department, he said, in association with the district administration and police has been making elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Jathara while the municipal corporation will provide the facilities including drinking water, sanitation etc.

After Maha Samprokshanam, Sahasra Kalasabhishekam will be held on May 7 while the annual jatara which will begin with the chatimpo on May 9 will go on till May 17.
