From sewing machine to SUV, Kavita transformed from an ordinary housewife to a successful entrepreneur

Raipur. Raipur. Kavita Verma, who bought a sewing machine with Rs 13,000 of her earnings just a few years ago, has today bought her own car on the basis of her hard work. Kavita is earning an annual income of about Rs 8 lakh from the business of clothes and shoes. In this journey from sewing machine to SUV, she not only built her business, but also set an example of financial independence. The secret of her success is not only hard work and consistency, but adopting new ideas, having a different approach from others, focusing on better design and quality, and adopting new business methods have also been important aspects of her success. With her dedication and foresight amidst struggles, Kavita proved that efforts made in the right direction can bring big changes.

Kavita Verma of Kirana village of Tilda spent her childhood in sewing, embroidery and household chores. She never thought that this skill would become her identity in the future. When she came to Tilda after marriage, she had to face a strict and traditional environment. Being the daughter-in-law of a joint family, she was expected to be limited to household responsibilities only. It was considered against the traditions here for the women of the house to go out and work. But when financial constraints made the situation at home difficult,

Kavita decided to make her skills her weapon. Kavita became a part of the Vandana SHG self-help group and started collecting information about government schemes and loans from the government. While working in Bihaan, she saved her initial salary and bought a sewing machine worth Rs 13,000, which is still kept safely in her big clothes shop. With the sewing machine, Kavita started work at a small scale in her home. There were difficulties in the beginning. It was not easy to manage the shop along with household chores. Many times, despite working hard the whole day, only Rs 500 would be earned. But she did not give up.

Her goal was not just to run the business, but to make her business big. She made a strategy. Sell more, even if the profit is a little less. Earlier she used to get the goods only from Tilda, but gradually she started ordering clothes from Raipur, Surat and Delhi as well. During festivals and wedding season, she used to work for 15-15 hours without eating and drinking so that she could complete more orders. Her hard work paid off and the number of customers started increasing. Kavita has also set up her stalls in the programs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, which gave her more recognition. Today, Verma is giving employment to others instead of just working herself. She has employed three girls as salesgirls in her shop. Inspired by her success, today 15 other women of her family have also started their own businesses. Now her shop has become so famous that customers have started coming from even 10 kilometers away. She is soon planning to expand her business to the wholesale market to make it bigger. Proud of his wife’s success, Dinesh Verma calls her ‘Lakshmi of his house’. Kavita has stood as an example for the entire society today. His story is inspirational not only for the village but for the entire society.
