Tamil Nadu: The Cyber Crime Unit has warned against fake advertisements and website links appearing on social media regarding the Assembly elections.
The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Unit has issued a press release regarding this: The public should verify news, advertisements, and information related to the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on the official websites of the Election Commission and the government before sharing them on social media.
If you see fake news, fake advertisements, misinformation, graphic videos, or illegal content on social media, you can report it through the Cyber Crime Unit’s website.
Do not click on text messages, emails, WhatsApp messages, or social media links from unknown individuals. Treat them with caution until you verify their authenticity. One-time passwords and PINs for social media accounts, emails, and bank transactions should be kept confidential.
Election-related information, news, and videos should not be shared on social media without verifying their authenticity. Posts that incite human emotions and feelings should be avoided.
Creating and sharing fake news, morphed photos, and pornographic images is a punishable offense. It states that the public should strictly refrain from sharing posts on social media that disturb social peace, including those inciting hatred and violence.
