How did the fraud happen?

The incident started in 2016, when Kaushal Prasad, working in the Gevra project, discussed about the job of children with Nirmala Nishad, a relative of his colleague. Nirmala introduced Satish Sahu, a resident of Raigarh. Satish, on the pretext of a job, first asked Kaushal Prasad to send Rs 1,17,000 in cash and in bank accounts. In the year 2018, Satish introduced him to Yashwant Patnaik, resident of village Godhi, Tamnar, who cheated him of Rs 29,44,800 on the pretext of getting him a job in Jindal company and land. In total, the accused committed fraud of Rs 30,61,800.

New fraud in the name of land

In the year 2022, Yashwant again laid a new trap of fraud. He deceived him by saying that land had been identified in Godhi village for Jindal company’s solar plant and that he would get the land at a price lower than the market price. Kaushal Prasad and his friend went to see the land, but no proof of land or papers was found in the village. When it came to asking for the money back, Yashwant sent a cheque of Rs 10 lakh of Punjab National Bank on WhatsApp in April 2024. On going to the bank, it was found that Yashwant’s account had been closed two years ago.
