France’ left wing won most seats, Macron’s party in second place

PARIS: No party could win a clear majority in France’s second phase of elections. However, the present view is that the left party will come to power in the country by nullifying the first phase election results and opinion polls. Since no one has a clear majority, the coalition government will come to power. Left parties are in first place and President Macron’s Centre Alliance is second. The far-right party National Rally, which was expected to come to power, was opposed by popular will. The party managed to get only the third position.

The left won 181 seats, while Macron’s Centrist Alliance won 160 seats and Marine Le Pen’s National Rally won 143 seats. French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that he will wait for the full results to form a new government. The French National Assembly will convene on July 18. The next government will be known by then.

It is believed that there will be a significant difference in France’s future stance on global diplomatic issues and the Ukraine war if the left government comes. There is also strong public sentiment against President Macron. Jordan Bardella, 28, president of the far-right National Rally party, accused Emmanuel Macron of plunging the country into uncertainty and instability.

Left-wing leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon sought the resignation of French prime minister, saying the election results were a relief to the majority of French citizens. Meantime, it is also reported that after the results came, there were conflicts in many places in France.
