Former Punjab CM Channi summoned for the third time in disproportionate assets case

Chandigarh (IANS). The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday summoned former chief minister and Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi to its state headquarters in Mohali for the third time in connection with a case of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The Vigilance Bureau is probing the assets of Channi, his brothers, family members and some of their associates for amassing assets disproportionate to their declared sources of income.

Earlier, Channi had appeared before the probe agency on June 14 and was questioned for over five hours.

The bureau is also probing a complaint against Channi alleging misappropriation of funds from an official function for his son’s marriage.

An RTI also revealed that Channi spent Rs 60 lakh on his food in the three months he was chief minister. However, Channi has denied all these allegations.

On March 7, the Vigilance Bureau issued a lookout circular against Channi to prevent him from going abroad.

Channi has been vocal in his criticism against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
