Former MP and BJP leader Navneet Rana acquitted in fake caste certificate case; father’s trial continues

Maharashtra: Recently, a Metropolitan Magistrate Court acquitted former MP and BJP leader Navneet Rana in a case filed at the Mulund police station. The allegation is that she allegedly obtained a forged caste certificate. However, the case against her father will continue.

The case was filed against Rana and her father, Harbhajan, following a complaint by a social activist. The complaint alleged that the caste certificate Rana submitted to contest the Amravati seat, reserved for SC candidates, was forged.

After investigating the matter, the Mulund police filed a charge sheet against both. The Bombay High Court had previously cancelled Rana’s caste certificate, stating that it was fraudulently obtained. However, in April 2024, the Supreme Court reinstated her SC certificate, allowing her to contest the Lok Sabha elections.
