Lucknow. Former IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, Divya Mittal has now announced to enter politics after resigning from administrative service. After being in the Indian Administrative Service for about 13 years, she has made it clear that she will start her new political journey from Uttar Pradesh. At present, instead of joining any existing political party, he has talked about creating an independent political platform with the common people.
Announcing her next step on September 29, Divya Mittal said that Uttar Pradesh is her workplace and she wants to stay here and raise people’s issues. He also made it clear in his message that his aim is not just to gain power or position, but to try to bring about a change in the functioning of politics.
Divya Mittal’s journey to reach administrative services has also been much talked about. He studied engineering from IIT Delhi and then did MBA from IIM Bangalore. After completing his studies, he worked in London. She was working in the financial services sector and her professional career was in good shape, but she decided to leave her foreign job and come back to India.
After returning to India, Divya Mittal started preparing for the Civil Services Examination. Later, she passed the UPSC exam and made it to the Indian Administrative Service and became an IAS officer of the 2013 batch. However, the number of his UPSC attempts varies across reports, so independent official confirmation of this aspect is unclear.
As an IAS officer, Divya Mittal handled many important responsibilities in Uttar Pradesh. She served as District Magistrate in districts like Deoria, Mirzapur and Sant Kabirnagar. During his administrative service, some of his work related to basic facilities and local problems in rural areas remained in the news.
While being the District Magistrate in Mirzapur, the initiative of providing water through pipeline to Lahuriyadah village had given him special recognition. This area was struggling with water problem for a long time and the local people had to depend on tankers. After this project, there was a lot of discussion about the administrative working style of Divya Mittal.
Divya Mittal had announced her voluntary resignation from the Indian Administrative Service on 30 August 2026. Recalling his 13-year administrative journey on social media, he had said that even though his post is coming to an end, his dream of working for the country and society has not ended. His resignation was accepted in September and speculation began in political circles about his next move.
Immediately after his resignation, questions were raised about his entry into politics. At that time he had denied joining any political party. After this, on September 28, she indicated through social media that she would make her future plans public on the morning of September 29. The next day he announced to play an active role in politics.
Regarding her new political innings, Divya Mittal has said that she is not starting with the flag of any traditional political party. His plan is to create an independent political platform with common citizens. He has talked about including issues like accountability of the government system, problems of rural areas, problems related to employment and competitive examinations among his priorities.
Divya Mittal has also said that her aim in politics is not just to change faces, but to bring about a change in the way the system works. He has talked about keeping distance from politics based on caste, religion, money and muscle power. According to him, it is necessary to make the problems and questions of common people a direct part of the political agenda.
After her announcement, the discussion has also intensified as to what kind of role she will play in the upcoming electoral politics in Uttar Pradesh. At present, he has not made any official announcement of alliance with any existing party or becoming a candidate from any electoral seat. Therefore, discussions about contesting elections or going with any big party are currently limited to speculations.
Divya Mittal’s entry into politics is also attracting attention because her career first moved towards the corporate sector, then administrative services and now politics. Study in IIT and IIM, job in London and then nearly 13 years of experience in the Indian Administrative Service have been an important part of his public life.
At present, Divya Mittal has decided to start her political journey independently, calling Uttar Pradesh as her political workplace.
