Bengaluru (IANS). Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar took oath as a Congress MLC at Vidhana Soudha on Monday. Along with him two other leaders also became members of the Legislative Council. Council President Basavaraj Horatti administered the oath of office to the members, and welcomed them.
Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar along with Minor Irrigation and Water Resources Minister N.S. Boseraju and senior leader Tippannappa Kamakanoor also took oath as council members in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
All three leaders were elected to the Legislative Council, as the BJP did not field any candidate. Now Congress candidates have occupied all the three posts.
Three seats in the council are former DCM Laxman Savadi, Baburao Chinchanasur and R. was vacant due to Shankar’s resignation.
Former DCM Laxman Savadi joined Congress and is now MLA from Athani constituency.
The council membership is being seen as a comeback for former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who lost the election from the Hubli Dharwad Central seat.
However, Shettar’s move to join the Congress and quit the BJP before the elections proved beneficial in breaking the BJP’s vote bank.
As the session begins, Shettar will attend the session for the first time as a member of the Congress party. According to sources, the Congress is all set to use him as a shield against the BJP in the House.
Shettar has reportedly been instructed to launch an aggressive campaign against the BJP on various issues.
