Bilaspur. In Bilaspur, the Food Department has shown strictness against illegal transportation and sale of paddy. The officers of the department conducted investigations in different areas of the district and arrested 31 middlemen and seized 576 quintals of paddy from them. The department has taken action under the Mandi Act against the traders involved in this illegal business.
Actually, this time the state government has increased the area of paddy. Therefore, 21 quintals of paddy per acre is being purchased in the procurement centres. In such a situation, middlemen are active in selling paddy in the procurement centres, which also includes many traders, who are buying the paddy from the farmers and selling it in the procurement centres. After receiving information about middlemen being active in the purchase of paddy in the district, Collector Avnish Sharan has instructed the officers of the Food Department as well as the Revenue and Police to strictly check the vehicles transporting paddy in the area.
