BENGALURU: Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC) has installed 24 water level sensors at Raja Kaluwes to respond to floods in the BBMP jurisdiction, senior BBMP official said. The sensors are powered by solar energy and send alerts to the KSNDMC control room through the internet. Along with this, BBMP’s Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC) has also been alerted. The sensors show the water flow level in Raja Kaluwes through green, blue, red and black indicators. If it is green and blue then there is no danger. If it is red then it means danger and if it turns black then it is a warning of flood. With this, officials can immediately move residents of affected areas to safe places, avoiding disasters caused by floods. Apart from this, BBMP is continuously desilting Raja Kaluwes. Arrangements have been made to clean drains on the roadside for smooth flow of rain water. Officials said that out of the 860 km of Raja Kaluwe under BBMP jurisdiction, 581 km of RCC barrage has been constructed along with the drain. Work is in progress on another 199 km. The remaining 80 km is raw drain and dredging work is going on. “There are 74 flood-affected areas in the city and measures are being taken to provide permanent relief to them. Temporary arrangements have been made to avoid any problems in these areas this monsoon,” said a senior BBMP official.
