Fed up with moneylenders, Gujarat teacher commits suicide

Ahmedabad (IANS) | In a heart-wrenching incident, a 27-year-old teacher living in Odhav (Ahmedabad) committed suicide by hanging himself inside his house on Monday morning. He committed suicide due to continuous harassment by moneylenders even after paying interest of Rs 14 lakh.

The elder brother of deceased Subroto Pal had also attempted suicide six days ago by consuming poison. The police did not take any action on their complaints.

Subroto wrote in his suicide note that three moneylenders Yashpal Singh, Harshil Mishra and Aman Singh Chauhan were torturing him and his family. Despite seeking the help of the police, his complaint goes unheeded, leaving Subroto in a state of despair.

This incident took place in Gokulnagar Society of Odhav at around 5 am on Monday morning. Subroto used a cloth to hang himself from a hook in the kitchen ceiling.

In the suicide note written in Hindi, it is hoped that after his death, his family can get justice.

According to sources, the Pal family had borrowed Rs 5.50 lakh from the said moneylenders. The moneylenders often harassed them, resorting to physical violence and even death threats. Last Tuesday, Subroto’s elder brother Shubhankar had consumed poison, but timely treatment saved his life.

On Sunday evening, the police visited the Pal residence but failed to take a formal complaint, adding to Subroto’s anguish.

The three moneylenders often claimed that Nicole’s PIs were their relatives.

Odhav Police Inspector J.S. Kandoriya said that without concrete evidence, they cannot initiate any action. The body has been taken for postmortem.
