Tamil Nadu: A father and two sons died after being entangled in an electric fence erected around a farm near Odugathur to protect crops from wild animals. Another son was seriously injured. The landowner has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Janakiraman (55), a farmer from Ramanayinikuppam village near Odugathur in Vellore district, is married to Mallika (50). They have three sons, Vikas (25), Lokesh (23), and Jeeva (22).
Vikas and Jeeva help their father with farming and also run a nursery in their hometown.
The eldest son, Vikas, married two years ago and has a wife and a child. The second son, Lokesh, works in a private company in Bengaluru. Lokesh had come to his hometown for vacation.
On Monday night, Janakiraman and his three sons went to their farmland, and Janakiraman was caught in an electric fence, screaming. The electric fence was installed around the neighboring farmland to protect crops from wild animals. Seeing this, the three sons tried to rescue their father and were also electrocuted. Shortly after, Janakiraman, Vikas, and Jeeva were also electrocuted and died on the spot. Lokesh was seriously injured.
Upon learning of the incident, Veppanaguppam police arrived at the scene, informed the Electricity Board office, and cut off the power supply. Later, they sent the injured Lokesh to the hospital for treatment. The bodies of Janakiraman, Vikas, and Jeeva were recovered and sent to the Adukkamparai Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Furthermore, the police registered a case and on Tuesday arrested Shankar (52), a resident of the same area where the electric fence was installed. Investigation revealed that Shankar was farming on leased land.
