New Delhi: Team India’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s friend Umesh Kumar has made a shocking revelation. Umesh says that Shami thought of committing suicide a few years ago. Let us tell you that Shami’s personal life has been stressful, as his wife Hasin Jahan had filed a case of domestic violence against him. She also accused Shami of match fixing by taking money from a Pakistani woman. However, Shami was acquitted of these charges. Shami lived in Umesh’s house during that difficult time. The allegations of match fixing with Pakistan had broken him badly.
Umesh said in Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, “It came in the news that Shami wanted to commit suicide. What was the matter? Shami wanted to leave the world. It was 4 am that day. I woke up then to drink water. My bottle had run out of water, so I got up and went to the kitchen. I saw Shami standing in the balcony. I lived on the 19th floor. I understood what was happening. That night was like a doomsday for Shami. A mountain of sorrows had fallen on him. Shami had said one thing that night. Shami said that you can kill me, punish me or hang me, I am ready for everything. But the accusation of match fixing with Pakistan will not be tolerated.”
Umesh further said, ”I had told Shami that nothing in life stays. Life goes on. One day we both were chatting in the afternoon when suddenly a message came on the mobile that Shami has got a clean chit. I think that day was very special for Shami. That was probably a happier day than winning any World Cup. Shami has struggled a lot. He has made a name for himself by coming out of the village. He has reached this position by avoiding every conspiracy and facing every conspiracy in the glare of the world. Shami is one of the best bowlers in the world today.”
It is worth noting that Shami is currently out of the Indian team due to injury. Shami played his last match for India in the ODI World Cup 2023. He had a heel injury, which he underwent surgery in February. Shami had performed strongly in the World Cup. He took the highest number of 24 wickets in the tournament. Shami is currently working hard to make a comeback. He has started bowling practice to return to competitive cricket. Shami can make a comeback in the Indian team from the home Test series against Bangladesh, which is to be held in September.
