Imphal: In a series of anti-insurgency operations conducted over the last 24 hours, central and state security forces arrested an individual who was extorting money from and intimidating civilians using a replica firearm. Additionally, arms and ammunition were recovered from various districts.
According to police sources, the arrested individual has been identified as Md. Ilyas Khan (36)—also known as ‘Apik’ and ‘Rocky’—a resident of Kwakta Khuman Ward No. 8 in Bishnupur district. He was apprehended at his hideout in the Mantripukhri area (Friends Colony), which falls under the jurisdiction of the Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district.
During the operation, security personnel recovered a 9mm replica pistol from his possession, which he allegedly used to intimidate people and carry out extortion.
In a separate operation conducted in the Heirok Part-II, Mayai Leikai area under the Heirok Police Station in Thoubal district, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and incriminating items. The recovered material included a .32 pistol with a magazine, two SBBL guns, 71 rounds of live ammunition of various calibers, and two tear smoke shells.
Officials also recovered 12 stickers bearing the KCP logo, 14 bulletproof plates, a bulletproof jacket, and a set of military-style clothing, including a camouflage shirt, trousers, a cap, boots, and a belt.
The police stated that both the arrested individual and the recovered items have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal action
