New Delhi (IANS). Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that during the BJP’s rule in the MCD, Delhiites hesitated to pay taxes due to concerns of possible rigging. However, ever since the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came to power in the MCD, more people have started paying taxes voluntarily.
The Mayor of Delhi Dr. Shaili Oberoi announced that the MCD has collected a higher amount of tax as compared to previous years. In the first quarter of 2023-24, the MCD collected Rs 1,113 crore in property tax, which is significantly higher than previous years.
According to Oberoi, the number of taxpayers this year is 7.17 lakh. He attributed this growth to the confidence instilled in the MCD by the Kejriwal governance model, which has encouraged more people to pay taxes.
Shelly Oberoi expressed confidence that the money given by the tax payers will be used honestly for the development of the people.
At the same time, Arvind Kejriwal reiterated this sentiment and said that people now trust the AAP government and are paying taxes voluntarily. During the BJP rule, people were skeptical about the security of their tax payments.
However, under the present administration, which he considers honest, he is confident that every penny paid will be allocated for the welfare and development of the people.
