EU fines Meta 200 million euros

Brussels: The European Union on Wednesday fined Meta (Facebook) 200 million euros under the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), aimed at limiting the power of big tech companies.

The fine follows a year-long investigation by the European Commission that found Meta refused to allow market entry to smaller rivals. The EU says Meta was not complying with the new law.

The fines could also escalate tensions between the US and the EU, especially after US President Donald Trump threatened to raise tariffs on countries that fine US companies.
