There has been a stir in the area due to the arrival of a stray elephant near Bhilai Bazar, Ralia, the affected village of SECL’s Kusmunda mine under Korba-West Hardi Bazaar police station area of the district. The elephant has been seen going towards village Naraibodh. After getting the information, the forest staff has become active and started chasing the elephant away. Kusmunda Mine
The elephant was passing through the main road leading to the colony near the market of village Ralia when it encountered a woman named Gayatri Rathore, 55 years old, who had come out for a morning walk. Before Gayatri could handle the elephant suddenly seeing it in front, the elephant picked her up with its trunk and slammed her and moved ahead.
She is the sister-in-law of Ramchandra Rathore, the owner of a hardware shop. Gayatri has been brought to Korba for treatment. The villagers are running behind the elephant to see and chase it away. This is the second incident of an elephant coming to the mine-affected area. Earlier, about two years ago, a herd of half a dozen elephants had reached near village Reki, Nevsa.
