Usually, when elections are around, candidates announce various schemes, gifts and promises to attract voters. The recent Pune Municipal Elections are now attracting everyone’s attention. The reason for this is the promises made by the candidates to the voters there. Candidates are announcing expensive gifts to impress voters with the aim of winning. They are trying to impress voters with freebies like foreign trips, gold ornaments, and luxury cars.
There are still three weeks left for the Pune municipal elections. The councilors vying for power are making various promises to woo voters. A candidate in the Lohgaon-Dhanori ward has conducted a lucky draw. Through this draw, 11 voters have been promised 1,100 square feet of land each. Registration for this has also begun.
In Viman Nagar, the candidates went a step ahead and announced a foreign trip to the voters. They promised a five-day luxury tour to Thailand if they voted for them and won. In some other places, they are attracting voters with promises like expensive SUV cars, two-wheelers, Paithani, silk sarees, gold and silver ornaments for women voters through lucky draws. It seems that in some areas, gifts have already been given to the voters. Some have distributed sewing machines and bicycles. Cricket leagues have been organized for sports enthusiasts with a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh.
