Punjab: In a bitter election campaign which is expected to grow bitter with each passing day, it was a heart-touching moment when BJP candidate Taranjit Singh Sandhu and AAP candidate Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal met during the Eid celebrations at Jama Masjid inside the hall gate here. The Muslim community had organized a program at the mosque to celebrate Eid in which leaders from both sides participated. Sandhu and Dhaliwal were also honored by Muslim community leaders on this occasion.
Later in a press release, Sandhu said, “India is a secular country where people of all communities live in harmony. The Muslim community in the country is enjoying freedom and prosperity. All communities are benefiting from government schemes without any bias or inequality.”
Meanwhile, family members of Congress MP Gurjit Singh Aujla also visited the mosque and greeted the Muslim community. The MP’s brother Sukhjinder Singh Aujla and son Babar Aujla said, “Since Gurjit Singh Aujla is not available in the city, we have come to celebrate Eid on his behalf.”
After offering namaz on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the month-long fast of the devotees ended. A large number of devotees had gathered in the mosque. They prayed, congratulated and hugged each other. Community leaders said they prayed for world peace during the ceremony.
