Badaun: Due to the ongoing fierce war in Western Asia and global geopolitical tension, the international supply of crude oil has been badly affected. Amidst this global crisis, the Government of India has taken a big and historic step towards self-reliance in the energy sector. In this series, a new and advanced era of ethanol mixed petrol has also started in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh. Now the supply of 20 percent ethanol mixed petrol, which is called ‘E-20’ in technical language, has been started completely for the smooth operation of vehicles in various areas of the district. Following special instructions from the Central Government, this new fuel is being sold in full swing at almost all the major petrol pumps of Badaun. This visionary initiative will not only reduce the country’s dependence on foreign oil, but is also expected to provide a new strength to the country’s food-giving farmers and the national economy. It is noteworthy that till now only eight percent ethanol was being mixed in normal petrol in the country. But keeping in mind the changing global scenario and environmental protection, the Central Government took a tough decision to directly increase this mix to 20 percent. After this big decision of the government came into force, initially there were many apprehensions in the minds of the drivers and the general public regarding the safety of the vehicle engines. People were afraid that excess ethanol blended fuel might have a negative impact on the mileage and engine of their vehicles. However, the initial data and feedback from Badaun district completely refutes all these apprehensions. It is a matter of relief that since the introduction of E-20 petrol in the district, till now no engine failure or any kind of technical complaint has been reported in any vehicle. Various petrol pump operators and dealers of Badaun district have strongly welcomed this new beginning. Pump owners clearly say that this is the new beginning of a revolutionary change for the country’s energy sector. Initially there was confusion among some drivers, but now vehicles are running on the roads without any hindrance and technical problems. Automobile experts and pump operators believe that in the coming times, ethanol based green fuel will be the real future of Indian vehicles. From the environmental point of view, this fuel causes much less pollution than traditional petrol, which will also lead to improvement in the climate of cities. The biggest and direct benefit of this entire scheme is going to be the economic and agricultural sector of the country. India imports most of its crude oil needs from abroad, for which billions of dollars of foreign exchange have to be spent every year. By adding 20 percent ethanol in petrol, there will be a huge reduction in the import of crude oil, which will save valuable revenue for the country. Additionally, ethanol is mainly prepared from sugarcane juice, molasses and spoiled food grains. In such a situation, due to increase in demand for ethanol, sugarcane farmers of the entire country including Badaun will be able to get better and fair price for their crop. Overall, this successful launch of E-20 petrol in Badaun is proving to be a milestone in strengthening the country simultaneously on the economic, agricultural and environmental fronts.
