Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India on Thursday published the election calendar for two MLC seats left vacant under the MLA quota after the resignation of Kadiyam Srihari and Padi Kaushik Reddy, who were recently elected to the Legislative Assembly. While the notification for the MLC partial elections is scheduled to be published on January 11, voting will end on January 29. Both Srihari and Kaushik Reddy had resigned from their MLC posts on December 9 before taking oath as MLAs. His tenure as MLC will end on November 30, 2027. According to the calendar published on Thursday, the ECI will hold separate partial elections for one MLC election in Uttar Pradesh as well as two MLC elections in Telangana. While the notification will be released on January 11, the last date for nomination is January 18. Scrutiny of nominations will begin from January 19 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is January 22. Voting will be held on January 29 from 9 am to 4 pm, after which the votes will be counted again at 5 pm and the results will be announced. Following the victory of Congress in the recent assembly elections, the partisan strength in the chamber has changed dramatically. Therefore, it is possible that the next partial election will again be difficult for both the ruling Congress and its main opposition, BRS.
