Earthquake of 5.4 magnitude in Jammu and Kashmir, Doda area of Jammu division was the epicenter

Srinagar (IANS) | Earthquake tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday and no casualties or damage to property have been reported from anywhere so far. Data released by the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said that an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale hit the Union Territory at 1.33 pm.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Doda area of Jammu division. It came within 30 kilometers of the earth.

Its coordinates are latitude 33.12 degrees north and longitude 75.98 degrees east, officials said.

Kashmir is located in a highly sensitive seismic zone which is prone to earthquakes.

Earthquakes have caused havoc here before as well.

An earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale struck on October 8, 2005, killing over 80,000 people on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC).
