As per the instructions of Collector Richa Prakash Choudhary, under the guidance of Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Manoj Dani, under the Sickle Sangwari Initiative Program, a one-day training was organized at the District Hospital Durg by Master Trainer Dr. Yogeshwar Kalkonde M.D. Medicine Sangwari People’s Association for EQVT and Health on the subject of sickle cell management tab use and monitoring. Through an institution funded by the IB Group, the Sickle Cell Sangwari institution is operating the Sickle Cell Sangwari room in the District Hospital Durg. In which free consultation and treatment is provided to sickle cell patients in the government hospital under government schemes. Now, to expand in the entire district, the institution provided training to all the development block officers, medical officers of rural and urban areas in the District Hospital Durg. In which 05 doctors of the district hospital and 07 doctors from rural/urban areas were trained for the treatment of sickle cell patients and to provide the benefits of the scheme to sickle cell patients. The Civil Surgeon cum Chief Hospital Superintendent is providing free treatment and consultation facilities to all sickle cell patients in District Hospital Durg. Sickle Sangwari Initiative team is working to counsel sickle cell patients, provide information about Tab Hydroxyurea, clear their doubts and get confirmatory tests done in District Hospital and help in medical advice, counseling and providing medicines and proper guidance to sickle patients admitted in the ward. Sangwari Initiative is being run by NGO Sangwari People’s Association for Equity and Health Ambikapur. This NGO is providing free OPD facility in which a team of 08 doctors is continuously working. The NGO is providing health benefits to sickle cell patients in Surajpur, Ambikapur, Jashpur and other districts, as well as contributing in the field of other diseases like heart related, diabetes, epilepsy etc.
In this training, Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Manoj Dani directed to conduct 100% testing of sickle cell in the district and to give regular dose of Tab Hydroxyurea to sickle cell positive patients, and to follow up from time to time. Instructions were given to take action as per the guidelines of the gazette published by the government for issuing disability certificate to sickle cell patients. Tab Hydroxyurea is a safe medicine. Tab Hydroxyurea has the feature of an ideal medicine for sickle cell anemia that it provides therapeutic benefits through many mechanisms, with its use, 50 percent reduction can be brought in sickle cell patients admitted in the hospital. In the said training, Dr. Hemant Sahu, Civil Surgeon cum Chief Hospital Superintendent, District Program Manager Mr. Sandeep Tamrakar, Hospital Advisor Dr. Om Prakash Verma, Mrs. Preetika Pawar, Dr. Seema Jain Pediatrician from DPHNO District Hospital Durg, Dr. Devendra Sahu Medicine Specialist, Dr. B.R. Sahu, Gynecologist and Medical Officer from Block Patan, Dhamdha, Nikum and the team of Sickle Cell Sangwari Initiative of the district were present in the said training.
District Program Manager Mr. Sandeep Tamrakar informed that due to Sickle Cell Sangwari Initiative, now patients do not have to wander for admission, the Sickle Cell Sangwari worker was congratulated for continuously keeping in touch with the sickle cell patients and supporting continuous treatment.
