Drug racket busted: two smugglers arrested, links to Pakistan

Chandigarh: Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested two suspects of a drug smuggling racket. 7 kg heroin and weapons have also been recovered from them. This is being considered a major success of Punjab Police against drug smugglers. According to the police, this network was being operated from Pakistan and this action has given a big blow to the smugglers sitting across the border.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav gave this information on X. He said, “Investigation has revealed Pakistani links.” Five pistols, cartridges and magazines have been recovered from the arrested suspects.

Punjab Police has registered an FIR under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act. Let us tell you that two days ago, Punjab Police arrested a drug smuggler who was carrying 4,100 kg of poppy husk packed in 210 bags in a container truck from Madhya Pradesh. The police seized the poppy husk.

According to the DGP, based on secret information, Bathinda’s counter intelligence police teams along with the district police had set up a check post. After this, the suspicious container truck was stopped for investigation. During the investigation, the police seized 210 bags filled with 41 quintals of poppy husk. The DGP said that in the preliminary investigation, the officers have come to know that this consignment was to be delivered to Jalandhar, Moga and Ferozepur districts.
