DMK Needs to Remain Vigilant on Social Media: Former Minister P. Moorthy

Tamil Nadu: P. Moorthy, the DMK Secretary for the Madurai North District and a former minister, addressed party workers, stating that in the future, the DMK must respond to allegations leveled against it on social media with utmost vigilance and strategic precision. He made these remarks on Tuesday during a meeting of DMK North District functionaries held at Alathur, near Madurai.
The meeting featured a detailed discussion regarding the party’s recent electoral performance and its organizational strength. During the session, P. Moorthy noted that the DMK had suffered defeats in eight Assembly constituencies within the Madurai district—a result that serves as a subject for introspection for the party. He emphasized that the most significant lesson the party has learned from this outcome is that, amidst the evolving political landscape, the role of social media has become critically important.
He asserted that, going forward, instead of merely reacting to alleged propaganda and accusations being circulated against the party on social media, the DMK must respond with concrete and lucid clarifications. According to him, the timely refutation of misinformation is essential for safeguarding the party’s image and maintaining public trust.
P. Moorthy further observed that the influence of digital platforms in contemporary politics is growing rapidly; consequently, the organization must adopt a robust strategy on the digital front as well. He appealed to the party workers to remain active on social media and to disseminate accurate, fact-based information to the public.
The meeting was presided over by M.R.M. Balasubramaniam, Chairman of the Madurai North District DMK Council. Several party functionaries—spanning the state, district, and regional levels—including former MLA A. Venkatesan, were in attendance. All participants shared their views on strengthening the organization and formulating strategies for upcoming elections.
The meeting also included discussions on enhancing the engagement of grassroots-level workers to ensure that the party’s policies and schemes are effectively communicated to the public. Additionally, significant emphasis was placed on reinforcing the organizational structure and expanding outreach down to the booth level.
Overall, the meeting focused specifically on the lessons learned from the party’s electoral setbacks, the growing influence of social media, and the imperative to bolster organizational strength. P. Murthy’s statement is being viewed as an indication of the party’s upcoming strategy, which emphasizes greater activity on digital platforms and a policy of providing precise responses.
