Thoothukudi: Alleging that lies are being spread about Thoothukudi DMK candidate and outgoing MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and other senior party leaders, the DMK women’s wing has launched a campaign against YouTube channel ‘Ravana’ and NTK’s Mayiladuthurai candidate P Kaliammal from Tamil Nadu. Filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer. ,
According to the complaint by DMK women’s wing state social media coordinator Dr PM Yazhini, Kaliammal had shared unverified and fabricated information about Kanimozhi and other senior leaders in an interview to the channel. The complaint said that by deliberately tarnishing the reputation of Kanimozhi, Kaliammal was trying to garner votes through deceptive means.
“Without any evidence, the candidate has made baseless allegations against Kanimozhi regarding the purchase of a sugar factory in an interview, which amounts to defamation,” the complainant said.
He said it is also against the model code of conduct, guidelines for general conduct and maintenance of high standards, especially during election campaigns. He said that the CEO has been requested to take action under Section 123 (4) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
