Tamil Nadu: Following the completion of the nomination filing process in Puducherry, the names of candidates for the 13 seats being contested by the DMK in the state were announced on Tuesday.
In the Puducherry Assembly elections—much like in Tamil Nadu—the Congress and DMK alliance partners are contesting the polls as a unified entity under the banner of the ‘Indi’ alliance. The announcement of the candidate list was delayed due to ongoing disputes regarding seat-sharing within this coalition. Although the deadline for filing nominations expired on Monday (March 23), the alliance candidates had filed their nominations on a provisional basis.
Against this backdrop, the list of candidates for the 13 seats contested by the DMK was released on Tuesday by the party’s State Convener, R. Siva. The details are as follows:
R. Siva (MLA) has been declared the candidate for Villianur; S.S. Rangan for Mangalam; P. Angalane (MLA) for Thirubuvanai; R.R. Senthilkumar (MLA) for Pakkamoor; L. Sampath (MLA) for Mudaliarpet; Anibal Kennedy (MLA) for Uppalam; S. Gopal for Orleanpet; V. Karthikeyan for Nellithope; Vignesh Kannan for Raj Bhavan; A. Senthil for Kalapet; P. Vadivelu for Kathirkamam; A.M.H. Nazeem (MLA) for Karaikal South; and M. Nagathiyagarajan (MLA) for the Niravi seat. Additionally, the Ozhukarai seat has been allotted to the alliance partner, the ‘Liberation Tigers of Tamil Nadu’. In the previous Assembly elections, the DMK contested 13 seats, securing victory in six of them.
