DMK agrees to give seven Lok Sabha seats to Congress in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu. The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu has agreed to give seven Lok Sabha seats to the Congress. Congress had demanded 16 seats in the state. In the 2019 general elections, Congress contested nine seats as an alliance partner in the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), of which it won eight, while it lost the Theni seat where AIADMK’s O.P. Ravindranathan met senior Congress leader E.V.K.S. Won the seat by defeating Elangovan.
Sources said the list of Congress candidates was very large and T.R. The DMK team led by Baalu told the Congress leadership that it cannot consider giving more than seven seats. Earlier, DMK district secretaries had told the party leadership that Congress should be limited to fewer seats as its strength on the ground is limited. Sources said the Congress state leadership is hoping that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will intervene and ask the DMK chief to give some more seats to the party. A senior DMK leader told IANS that Congress’s strength is very less in almost all the constituencies and the seven seats it got is also more.
