‘Dilli Chalo’, hundreds of farmers detained in Gurugram

Gurugram. Hundreds of farmers were detained in Gurugram’s Manesar area on Tuesday when they tried to march towards Delhi to show solidarity with the ‘Delhi Chalo’ movement. South Haryana Kisan Khap, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and others had on Sunday announced that they will take out a peaceful march towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence and if the police stops them on the way, they will sit there and protest peacefully.

He had announced to support the key demand of the protesting farmers of legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. A few years ago, the Haryana government had acquired more than 1,800 acres of agricultural land from hundreds of farmers from several villages in the Manesar region.

Since then, they have been at loggerheads with the Haryana government demanding higher compensation. Farmer leader Chaudhary Santokh Singh said, “We were marching peacefully towards the national capital with our demands, but we feel that the government is scared. The government is illegally snatching away farmers’ land at throwaway prices. He also claimed that various farm organizations associated with the Samyukt Kisan Morcha have promised to support their demands. He said, “Therefore, we have decided to support the SKM movement.
