Dialysis center established in District Hospital has become a boon for patients

Balodabazar. A state-of-the-art dialysis center has been established in District Hospital Balodabazar 2 years ago with the help of Health Department and DMF. Now the kidney patients of the district are getting positive results. Patients from far-flung rural areas of the district have to come here for dialysis, so they are getting full benefit of it. From December 2023 to August 2024, 2688 sessions have been done so far as per three dialysis sessions per machine per day.

In this regard, District Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Rajesh Kumar Awasthi said that free dialysis facility is being provided under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Program. At present, four machines have been installed in the hospital for dialysis. Dialysis is completed in about 4 hours by the machines installed in the district hospital. According to the situation, the patient may have to undergo dialysis eight to twelve times a month. Currently there are 38 active registered patients in the dialysis unit who come regularly for dialysis. One of the four machines is working for Hepatitis C patients.

67-year-old Puran Lal Sahu, a resident of Kasdol town, who is availing dialysis, his nephew Devendra told that earlier he had to take his uncle to Raipur for dialysis which was very expensive and troublesome, but now the facility is available near home. I bring him there three times a week. Similarly, 56-year-old Dilip Baghel of village Charoda told that about 10 months ago, after examination in Raipur, he was advised to undergo dialysis. He stayed there for some time, later went to a private hospital in Balodabazar where it cost a lot of money, after that he is availing the facility from the district hospital.

The family members of the patient who is undergoing dialysis told that this facility is completely free in the hospital and now we do not have to go to the faraway city of Raipur or Bilaspur for dialysis, due to which we get convenience in every way. Not only the cost of travel is saved, but also the fatigue of travel in case of illness is avoided. At present, two technicians and one housekeeping staff have been appointed for the dialysis unit who are continuously providing their services. In this unit, along with dialysis, the patient is also educated about special type of food.

Civil Surgeon Dr. KK Temburne said that dialysis is a method for a patient suffering from kidney disease in which when the kidneys stop working or their capacity decreases, then the waste materials of the body are artificially removed from the body through this method. This has to be done until the person becomes completely healthy or a new kidney is transplanted. If the waste materials are not removed from the body, then poison can spread in the body and the person may also die. The CMHO has appealed to the residents of the district to take advantage of this facility if needed.
