Punjab: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday reiterated the demand to name the Halwara airport after the famous Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha. In a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjrap, the Prime Minister reminded that the Punjab Assembly had unanimously passed a formal resolution in its session on March 22, 2023, requesting the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, to base the Indian Air Force. Halwara, the future international airport in Ludhiana district of Punjab, has been proposed to be named “Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha International Airport”.
He said that the temporary terminal building of the airport is expected to be ready by the end of this month. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that flights are expected to start from the airport by the end of this year and he has also requested the previous Union Civil Aviation Minister in this regard. The Chief Minister said that he has personally discussed the issue with him as the matter is related to the sentiments of Punjabis. He once again emphasised that naming the airport after Kartar Singh Sarabha is a humble tribute to the great martyr who sacrificed his life on the altar of the motherland. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this young martyr has inspired the younger generation for centuries to work selflessly for the welfare of their country.
