New Delhi: An assistant sub-inspector of Delhi Police was allegedly shot in the head while on duty at a protest in south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur area, officials said on Saturday. Shaheed, who was an ASI, was posted on night picket at BP Marg along with sub-inspector Prem Singh, an officer said. “At 3 am, (the fallen) informed Prem Singh that he wanted to rest for 10 minutes and sat in his car parked near the barricade,” the officer said. “When Prem Singh returned after some time, he was found dead. He had a bullet wound in his head,” the officer said. Other officials said the martyred ASI, originally from Mahendragarh, Haryana, had joined the force in 1993 and was found to be currently posted at the police commissionerate of Kotla Mubarakpur. His family has been informed about his death, the official said. He said he was investigating the reason for this “extreme measure”.
