New Delhi (IANS) | The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to stay the ongoing investigation in connection with the FIR lodged by the Delhi Police against Ashneer Grover and his wife Madhuri Jain Grover. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani said no case was made out to stay the probe at this stage. However, the High Court has issued notice to the Economic Offenses Wing of Delhi Police and BharatPe on a petition by the Grovers, seeking quashing of the FIR and stay on the investigation.
The FIR was registered in May on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Economic Offenses Wing of the Delhi Police, accusing the couple (husband-wife) of indulging in fraudulent activity to the tune of Rs 81 crore. The Delhi High Court’s refusal to stay the investigation indicates that the legal proceedings against Grover will continue unabated.
The FIR was registered under sections 406, 408, 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code. A senior police officer associated with the investigation said that a complaint was received in connection with the matter and an FIR was registered after a preliminary inquiry into the allegations.
BharatPe said in a statement that we welcome the registration of FIR by the EOW (Economic Offenses Wing) in the company’s complaint regarding criminal offenses committed by Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain and other family members. For the last 15 months, the Company has been facing a vicious and malicious campaign by Grover against the Company’s Board and its employees.
Further said that registration of FIR is a step in the right direction, which unearths various suspicious transactions done by the family for their personal financial gains. This FIR will now enable the law enforcement agencies to probe deeper into the criminality and bring the culprits to book.
BharatPe said that we have full faith in the judicial and law enforcement systems of our country. We will continue to extend all possible cooperation to the authorities.
