New Delhi: The New Delhi Police rescued a kidnapped brother and sister from the Laxmi Nagar area after chasing the car for nearly three hours. Officials gave this information on Saturday. They said that the accused had demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from the parents of the brother and sister. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apoorva Gupta said that the police received information about a boy (3) and a girl (11) being kidnapped in their own car at 11:30 pm on Friday. Gupta said that the father of the brother and sister told the police that the children were sitting in the car in front of a famous sweet shop on Vikas Marg in Shakarpur area. He told that he and his wife had gone inside the shop to buy sweets, when a person came and sat in their car in the guise of being a parking attendant. He said that the accused fled with the car in which both the children were sitting. The Deputy Commissioner said that the accused frightened the children and asked them to remain calm. He said that while driving the car, the accused called the couple from another mobile phone and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. He said that on receiving the information, two teams were formed to trace the accused and the children. Gupta said that one team was led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shakarpur and the mother of the children was also with him, while the other team was led by the SHO of Laxmi Nagar police station and the father of the children was with him. The Deputy Commissioner said that after a chase of about three hours by about 20 vehicles of police officers, the kidnapper left the car with the children near Samaypur Badli area and fled.
The officer said that meanwhile the accused drove for more than 100 kilometers on the roads of Delhi. He said that finally the police managed to rescue the children, who are safe. Gupta said that the children have been handed over to their parents. The officer said that the valuables kept in the car including jewelry, mobile phones were found safe from the car as the kidnapper did not get time to take them due to the continuous chase by the police. He said that police teams have been formed to arrest the accused.
