The Delhi Traffic Police issued 14,160 challans and notices for various traffic violations during a week-long enforcement drive aimed at improving road safety and maintaining disciplined traffic movement in the capital.
The enforcement drive was conducted from September 20 to 26, with “wrong-side driving” accounting for the highest number of cases. A total of 10,434 challans and notices were issued against motorists found driving against the designated flow of traffic.
The traffic police stated that driving on the wrong side poses a serious threat to motorists, pedestrians, and other road users, and remains a primary focus of their enforcement efforts.
Vehicles with tinted windows and private buses were also targeted during the drive, resulting in 917 and 1,311 challans and notices being issued, respectively.
In addition to these violations, the traffic police took action against 691 vehicles for improper or obstructive parking and issued 438 challans and notices for permit violations. Enforcement action was also taken in 76 cases of SC (Registration Certificate/Permit) violations and 63 cases of RC violations. Forty-four challans and notices were issued for disobeying legal directives, while 50 motorists were prosecuted for not wearing seat belts. Another 136 cases were recorded under other enforcement categories.
The traffic police stated that the focused enforcement targeted violations affecting road safety, traffic discipline, and smooth movement on Delhi’s roads.
The department added that sustained enforcement would be combined with public awareness initiatives to promote responsible road behavior and reduce the risk of accidents. Such drives will continue across the capital, with a special focus on violations that affect public safety and the orderly flow of traffic.
The traffic police urged motorists and other road users to adhere to traffic rules, exercise patience, and cooperate with traffic personnel to make Delhi’s roads safer.
