Tamil Nadu : Public Health Minister M. Subramaniam said that deaths due to co-morbidities will not be considered as Covid-19 deaths. Minister M. Subramaniam inaugurated the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Fatty Liver Disease Awareness Training Camp at the TMS campus in Teynampet, Chennai on Wednesday. The event was attended by Public Health Secretary P. Senthilkumar, National Health and Life Group Director Arun Thamburaj, Public Health and Immunization Director Selvavinayagam, Medical and Rural Welfare Director J. Rajamurthy, Joint Director (Non-Communicable Diseases) Krishnaraj, Project Officer (Non-Communicable Diseases) Praveen and others. At that time Minister M. Subramaniam had told reporters: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is the third largest cause of death in India. Heart disease and lung disease have increased after the corona outbreak. To eliminate obstructive pulmonary disease, awareness will be created to identify long-term smokers and people more prone to lung disease and identify its causes and cure them. Keeping this in mind, this project has been started.
Similarly, fatty liver disease also causes high mortality. Due to the current lifestyle changes, about 30 percent of the population worldwide is affected by fatty liver disease.
Keeping this in mind, various projects have been started, such as creating awareness among people about fatty liver disease through field workers and conducting early stage trials.
The continuation of various projects like Stalin Health Care Project, Seeking People for Medicine, Let’s Save Lives and Let’s Protect Our Feet, will soon be launched in Chennai by the Chief Minister.
