Pune: In the case of rape of an innocent girl in Pune, Maharashtra, the special court has sentenced the accused to death. The special court of Pune on Friday announced the punishment against the 28-year-old accused. This incident of rape and murder of a seven year old girl took place in the year 2022. Additional judge BP Kshirsagar of the special POCSO court hearing the case has also sentenced the convict’s 48-year-old mother to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for destroying evidence in the case. While awarding the death penalty, the court said that the case fell in the “rarest of rare category” and the convict did not deserve any leniency for this heinous crime. On August 2, 2022, a minor girl was abducted from the courtyard of her house in a village in Maval tehsil of Pune district. According to the police, her body was found the next day after the rape. Injuries were found on the girl’s neck. Tejas Dalvi’s name came up during the investigation. The officer said that further investigation revealed that he had kidnapped the girl and taken her to his home, where he first raped the girl and then killed her by slitting her throat. Police said the man then threw the girl’s body in a pit under a tree behind his house and the mother of the accused helped her son in destroying evidence of the crime. Police arrested both the accused and registered a case against them under IPC and POCSO Act. Judge Kshirsagar convicted the mother and son on different charges. The court sentenced Dalvi to death, but his mother was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment.
