Daitapati servitors enter Jagannath temple to perform rituals till Niladri Bije

Puri: Daitapati servitors enter Jagannath temple today to perform rituals from Debasnana Purnima, till Niladri Bije.

The servitors will perform the Bahuta Kanta ritual today ahead of Snana Purnima preparation. For these rituals, darshan for the devotees will be suspended from 6 am to 2 pm on Saturday.

Bahuta Kanta rituals are performed at the time of pahandi of the deities that takes place during Snana Jatra, Gundicha Jatra, Adapa Mandapa Bije Jatra and Niladri Bije.

The Snana Jatra or Deba Snana Purnima, a ceremonial public bath ceremony of the three deities of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra is an important event in the run-up to the Rath Yatra or the Car Festival.

The deities are bathed by 108 pitchers of water drawn from a well situated near the Sitala temple in the confines of the Jagannath temple.
