Cyclone Biparjoy moves towards Gujarat coast, efforts continue to evacuate people

Kutch (IANS) | As Cyclone Biparjoy moves towards the Gujarat coast in Kutch district, efforts are on to evacuate thousands of people to safer places. Authorities in the coastal districts of Kutch, Porbandar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Morbi have started the process of shifting people living near the coast to safer places.

Thousands of people living within a radius of 10 km from the coast are being prepared to be taken to safer places.

The impending cyclone Biparjoy poses a challenge for hundreds of thousands of people living in the coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat. The cyclone is accompanied by strong winds and heavy rains, is expected to make landfall near Jakhau port on June 15.

The impact of the cyclone has already started showing. Trees have been uprooted due to strong winds, due to which there has been loss of life. Tragically, two cousins, a four-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, were killed in a wall collapse in Bhuj town.

Additionally, a woman, who was sitting on the back seat of a scooter with her husband, died when a tree fell on her in Rajkot’s Jasdan taluka.

Efforts are on to evacuate over 12,000 people from Kutch and Dwarka districts, which are likely to bear the brunt of the storm.
