Cultural activist Bap Chandra Dutta passes away in Sivasagar district

GAURISAGAR: Bap Chandra Dutta, a noted cultural activist and resident of Dikhowmukh Dicial village in Sivasagar district, passed away at the age of 95 on Friday night due to an old age ailment. He was the secretary of the Sankritic Mahasabha of Asom, Sivasagar District Committee. He was a prominent actor. He acted in as many as 200 bhaonas and dramas and was enthralled by the audience for his perfect and bold acting. He was also well versed in dhul, khol, and tabla. He was also a pioneer of the Dicial Raas Mahotsav. For his contributions towards the promotion of culture, he was felicitated by Axom Xahitya Xabha, Sivasagar Zila Sanskritic Maha Sabha, Bharatiya Gana Natya Sangha, Dicial Raas Mahotsav Kala Krishti Kendra, Dicial Milonjyoti Club, and others. His body was cremated on Saturday morning. His body was taken to the cremation ground near his residence with a procession of gayan-bayan. Before cremation, a shraddhanjali function was held, where many people and organisations paid tribute. MP Tapan Kumar Gogoi, Pabitra Kumar Sarmah, and Prodip Borah, president and secretary, respectively, of Asom Sanskritc Maha Sabha; Dr.Saumarjyoti Mahanta, Principal, Sibsagar Commerce College, and former President, Sivasagar Press Club; Samiron Phukan, Assistant Secretary, AASU; Sivasagar, Gaurisagar, and Dikhowmukh Press Club; Dicial Gaon Naamghar Samaj; AASU; Dikhowmukh Regional Unit; Gaurisagar Sakha Jestha Nagarik Mancha, amongst various organisations, individuals expressed their condolence. He is survived by five sons, two daughters, and a host of relatives.
