Ranchi: Two paramilitary force personnel committed suicide in Ranchi on Thursday. One jawan shot himself, while the other hanged himself. Earlier on Wednesday, an Assistant Sub Inspector of Jharkhand Police also shot himself in Karaikela of Chaibasa district.
The first incident on Thursday took place in the CRPF camp in Sambo village under Nagdi police station area in Ranchi, where jawan Rahul Kumar shot himself with an INSAS rifle during duty. The jawan died on the spot after being shot. Rahul was a resident of Bokaro district of Jharkhand. CRPF officials reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported. The reasons for the suicide have not been ascertained.
The second incident is from the Airport police station area of Ranchi. Here, the body of an NDRF jawan Jai Lakra was found hanging from a tree in Pokhar Toli. He was a resident of Chhattisgarh. On Thursday morning, when the villagers saw the body hanging from the tree, they informed the local police. After the body was brought down, it was identified as that of an NDRF jawan. Prima facie, the police is considering it a case of suicide. In the last one year, 13 police, paramilitary and army jawans have died in Jharkhand due to suicide or firing from their own weapons.
On July 25, a jawan named Ashish Kumar shot himself in the CRPF 22nd Battalion camp located at Sheela OP in Simaria police station area of Chatra district. He was a resident of Sant Ravidas Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. In the last week of July, Pramod Singh, a jawan posted at Karamdih picket in Chhipadohar police station area of Latehar district, died due to firing from his own weapon.
On June 18, a CISF jawan Sanjeet committed suicide after strangulating his wife to death in Sector 8 of Harla police station area of Bokaro. On May 31, 31-year-old district police jawan Vikas Kumar, posted at Hazaribagh DIG residence, committed suicide by shooting himself while on duty. On February 6, a jawan named Kailash Chand Mehra committed suicide by hanging himself at the CRPF 190 Battalion camp in Chatra. He was a resident of Lohri village in Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh.
In November 2023, Satyajit Kachhap posted at Kolebira police station in Simdega district committed suicide by shooting himself. On November 24, an army jawan from Uttarakhand committed suicide by hanging himself in Argora police station area of Ranchi. In October 2023, Jharkhand Police Havildar Lalan Paswan posted in Pakur committed suicide.
