Crime Branch busts IPL betting racket at Porvorim

An Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket was busted by the Crime Branch in Porvorim and arrested 14 persons for their involvement in the crime.

Equipment worth over Rs 25.38 lakh was seized and an offence under the relevant provisions of the Goa Daman & Diu Public Gambling Act (GDDPG) has been registered.

The raid was conducted on Friday at in a closed premises of Dynasty Villa No 1, Vidya Enclave, Porvorim where in 14 accused were caught red handed while accepting bets on the on-going 20-20 IPL Cricket match played between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.

The Crime Branch sleuths seized Rs 38,000, 47 mobile phones, a laptop, three LED TVs, three internet routers, three television set-top boxes, one router modem and other gaming electrical accessories. The seized items have been valued at Rs 25.38 lakh and has been attached after conducting the panchanama.

The alleged accused Ranjit Gedam, 28, Pravin Rajput, 24, Ankit, 24, Nanda Kishan, 54, Jyotiprakash Ray Kishan, 38, Kesham Yadaro, 20, Ayaz Khan Khan, 26, Jagdish Arjun Verma, 24, Rajan Rakesh Dube, 23, Kawal Pritam Singh, 40, Pankaj Gautam Chaure, 27, Manjeet Singh, 41, Nitish Pandey, 19 all natives of Chhattisgarh and Mohit Kumar Tiwari, 28 from Bihar have been arrested by the Crime branch and an offence under section 3 and 4 of the GDDPG Act has been registered against them.
