Surguja. Surguja. A husband and wife died due to snake bite in Surguja district. The couple was admitted to the Medical College Hospital for treatment in critical condition. Both were sleeping on the ground when they were bitten by snakes. It is suspected that they were bitten by a poisonous krait snake. Actually, on the night of June 6, Sagar Toppo (47) and wife Sukhmen (45), residents of village Koldihha of Gandhinagar police station area, slept on the ground after eating food. On the morning of June 7, when the couple woke up, they were having body pain, difficulty in breathing and other problems. Both were immediately admitted to the Medical College Hospital on the suspicion of being bitten by a poisonous insect or snake.
During the examination of the couple, no bite marks were found anywhere on their body. The couple said that they did not even know that they were bitten by any creature. Sukhmen died during treatment last night. On the other hand, husband Sagar Toppo also died during treatment on Saturday. It is suspected that both died due to krait snake bite while sleeping on the ground. The police handed over the bodies of the husband and wife to the relatives after the post-mortem. Both were cremated together on Saturday evening. Most deaths in Surguja division occur due to krait bites. Its victims are people who sleep on the ground. Many times the krait bite is not even detected and no marks are visible. If there is a delay in treatment after krait bite, then the chances of survival are very less. It is one of the most poisonous snakes.
